Ostad Amir Hossein Tabnak was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1935. He learned ceramic art from Ostad Hossien Ebrahim. He also benefited from teaching of the Iranian maestro Calligrapher Ostad Seid Hossein Mirkhani. Tabnak is a graduate of the school of Fine Arts.
Tabnak is not only a calligrapher with full mastery of all Persian calligraphy styles, but also accomplished in painting, ceramic art, interior design and architecture. The artworks in a number of mosques, monuments, public buildings, books and book covers fashioned in Iran and abroad, carry the signature of Tabnak.
Tabnak has transcribed several books into art of calligraphy; one of his earliest works, done in his youth, was “A Guide to Ordu Language,” which was taught at Tehran University. His latest works include “Book of Hafiz,” and “From Persia to Napa” by Mage Publishing.
Ostad Tabnak has actively promoted Persian arts and calligraphy in Iran and United States. He is one of the cofounders of Iranian Society of Calligraphy and taught calligraphy at Ministry of Art and Culture in Iran.
Sponsored by the Smithsonian, the most prestigious center for the Art and Culture in the United States, master Tabnak set up calligraphy workshops and taught international students at the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery.
Smithsonian having recognized Ostad Tabnak as one of the prominent contemporary Persian calligraphers, exhibited Tabnak’s calligraphy at Ancient Persian art exhibit at Sackler Gallery.
Master Tabnak has participated in many well-known national and international art exhibitions. With more than five decades of artistic studies and research, based on Iranian costumes, you will witness completely new and diverse frontiers in the art of calligraphy.
